On Earth-Prime, Justice League writers Cary Bates and Elliot Maggin struggle to come up with a new idea for editor Julius Schwartz. In desperation, Maggin mentions the cosmic treadmill that Schwartz supposedly has, only to be shown it to be real by Bates. As Bates stands on it, Maggin turns it on, sending Bates to Earth-Two. During the cross-over, Bates is struck by a strange energy. As the Justice Society attempt to capture a thief, Bates finds himself aiding the criminal's escape by altering his get away car into a plane simply by thinking about it.Back on Earth-Prime, Maggin informs Schwartz of what has happened and uses the treadmill to send himself after Bates but lands on Earth-One, meeting Aquaman who is on his way to the Justice League satellite. Aboard the satellite, Maggin convinces the League that he is from Earth-Prime with the help of the Flash who has previously travelled there. On Earth-Two, the Justice Society attend an emergency at a botanical garden and are attacked by giant plants. Overcoming them, they are then rendered unconscious by a gas bomb set off by Bates. The League realize that Bates must have materialized on Earth-Two as they cannot find him on their Earth. The Injustice Society, meanwhile, are revealed as the cause of the mysterious energy that struck Bates, turning him into a villain. The League travel to Earth-Two, landing on an aircraft carrier and are confronted by the Injustice Society. The League defeat the villains easily and find that, although they didn't intend it, their enemies are dead. Only then do they realize the villains were wearing masks and that they were actually the Justice Society.
